Finding Sources: Some Places to Look

I’ve done a lot of research in my time, first as an academic and then as an author of historical fiction. In that time, I have discovered three wonderful, free sites I want to share.

Archive.org is a non-profit library of millions of free texts, movies, software, music, websites, and more. I found this entire book about Prince Talleyrand.

Hathi trust

Hathi Trust https://babel.hathitrust.org/cgi/mb is another trove of information. Enter your research term and away you go. Look what I found about Malcolm X.

Parallel Lives

Check out Parallel Lives https://bit.ly/3WCdlCE. It’s a terrific site that’s more for inspiration about your book’s time period than finding sources. It lists contemporaries in culture, discovery/science, and leadership from 3345 BCE to AD 2018. You might find a good foil for your lead character or a famous person to add depth to your story.

Happy researching!
